Lego Night (open spots) and Student Successes

Posted Date: 4/23/25 (7:13 PM)

Good Afternoon South Side Families - We are so excited to be back after our week away.  We wanted to share a few bits of exciting news.

We still have 5 slots open for tomorrow's Family Lego Night.  Each child will have the opportunity to pick out their own Lego set and complete it with their family.  There will be a writing extension and ice cream after.  If you would like to join us with the 5 open slots, please let us know.  We can't wait to see tomorrow's creativity!

Yesterday we had a huge celebration for our students participating in the 'Raising Readers' program which was grant funded through the Stocker Foundation.  Thanks to the amazing work of Mrs. Zimmermann, Mrs. Cyr and Mrs. Fedorchick, our students in our 21st Century after school program received additional tutoring twice a week as part of their extended day of learning.   Thanks to the kids for their incredibly hard work each session, to our famlies that joined us and to the adults who made this program possible.  We are INCREDIBLY proud to be a Title 1 school!

Lastly, we are really proud of the hard work of our kids and staff post April break.  We have made a commitment to maximize every minute of every day to ensure your kids are receiving the best instruction from the best staff in the entire city! Here is a peek inside of our 2nd grade classes during math.  Check out this collaboration, cooperation and deep thinking!!  The focus of this lesson was: to add and subtract three-digit numbers and multiples of 10 or 100 using base-ten blocks and equations. The structure of the base-ten blocks encourages students to notice that hundreds are added to or subtracted from hundreds and tens are added to or subtracted from tens.  Keep up the amazing work kids and staff!
